Freshmen Science Week 2 Review

Mr. Newman

The freshmen science students demonstrated their knowledge of instrumentation.  They were given 21 tasks to perform dealing with measurement.  They were told about significant digits and to be as accurate as possible.  I also let them know that each of the 21 tasks might cause a logical fallacy to occur from the wrong assumption just like in the crossword puzzle activity.  I found out who knew how to use the equipment and who didn’t.  I let the students who knew how to use a piece of equipment give a quick tutorial to those who did not.  We went over all results.  I sent several projects home(dorm) with the students to perform and bring back the next day.  So far they have done an excellent job.

We also have had a very interesting discussion of Bernoulli’s Principle, especially dealing with flight.  Below are some photos of the students doing activities from the 2nd week.

Measuring the hall

Measuring the door.

Do you use a meterstick to measure an angle?

Recording the data is so important!!

“What did you get?”

“Are you sure?”

The search begins for Jean Lafitte’s Treasure!

I will find the Lafitte Treasure!

No, I will find the treasure first!!

You are both wrong, it is mine!
