The Governor's Program for Gifted Children


Letter to Applicants

Dear Prospective Student and Parents:

Thank you for your inquiry about the Governor’s Program for Gifted Children (GPGC).   The GPGC will celebrate its 50th summer session beginning Sunday, June 8, 2008.  The session will end on Saturday, July 26, after the final performances. 

Cost of the seven-week program is $2300 ($2800 out-of-state fee) and covers the following: tuition, room/board including weekends, refundable $80.00 damage/key  deposit, student allowance, and two uniform shirts.

Substantial scholarships are available.  An application is included in the enclosed packet.

The GPGC will accept applications until all spaces are filled.  Please include with your application the required $20.00 application fee (check or money order made payable to GPGC). Only those applicants who meet the criteria described below will be considered for admission:

  1. Applicants for admission to the Junior Division must be in the sixth, seventh, or eighth-grade grade this school term, 2007-08.

  2. Applicant’s score on an acceptable aptitude test must be in the 96th percentile or higher.  A licensed psychologist, a certified school psychologist, or a qualified examiner under the supervision of a licensed psychologist must have administered the test. The examiner must report the results on the required report form enclosed with this application packet and mail it to our office:

Applicants for admission to the Senior Division, in addition to the aptitude requirements stated above, must meet the following criteria:

  1. Students currently in the 9th or 10th grade are eligible for admission to the Senior Division.

  2. Applicant must have maintained at least a “B” grade point average for the last completed school term, and must maintain that average for this current school year.

  3. Applicants for Senior Division status must take the A.C.T.; scores must be sent by the testing agent to our Office for evaluation no later than APRIL 30 (you must notify our Office if test results will arrive later).

Students who are outstanding in the performing arts are strongly encouraged to apply for admission to the Musically Gifted Division. Please contact our office for more information about our programs for the Musically Gifted, or visit our web site (www.gpgc.org).
