The Governor's Program for Gifted Children
Programs for the Musically Gifted
The Musically Gifted (MG) Section of the GPGC has been revived after it was closed more than fifteen years ago. It offers special classes and opportunities for gifted young musicians who wish to pursue a career in music, or who have a strong desire to pursue music as an avocation.
The Camelot Chamber Players group is the flagship of the revived MG Section. "Leaders" of orchestral sections are chosen by audition to come and live with the students of GPGC for the entire summer session. They receive a stipend as well as room and board. Their duties include leading the GPGC Orchestra which is open to all GPGC students talented with musical instruments, performing in group ensembles for the GPGC Community as well as the Lake Charles Community. Camelot Leaders also provide pit music for the annual GPGC Musical.
The mission of the Camelot Chamber Players is to provide musically gifted students with leadership opportunities, as well as to provide the GPGC Orchestra students with the opportunity to play with talented older students and learn from them.
The MG Section also offers a special opportunity for young instrumentalists in the GPGC Community to learn to play in ensembles and orchestras, and to study music history and theory.
Admission to the MG Section is by taped audition. Please contact us for more information about the Camelot Chamber Players and MG Section opportunities for younger children.
